Oilers pitcher Joshua Flores pitched a complete game to get the win for the Oilers.   Montebello moved to 2-0 in league play.  MHS played great defense throughout the game limiting Bell Gardens to 4 hits.  The lancers failed to reach 3rd base throughout the entire game.

Montebello High School Frosh Baseball team got off to a good start in league by defeating the visiting Schurr Spartans 8-4 on Tuesday.  MHS got off to a rough start allowing 3 runs in the first inning but battled back with 6 runs in the 3rd inning.  fThe Oilers were lead by a strong pitching performance by Jaime Martinez who threw a complete game allowing 6 hits while striking out 5.Shortstop Andrew Gallegos added 3 hits along with catcher Cristian Fuentes who had 2 hits and 3 RBI's.

Montebello got off to a bad start by falling behind 4-0 after 3 innings off play.  The Oilers were unable to overcome shakey defense and inconsistant pitching. The Oilers only managed 3 hits while their pitchers allowed 9 walks through 7 innings.

The Oilers were led by a strong pitching performance by Jaime Martinez who pitched a complete game striking out 7 and only allowing 4 hits.  MHS played strong defense throughout the game .  Third baseman Paul Uribe made two outstanding plays in the field to solidify the victory.

Monday April 26rd, 2010

MHS was able to overcome an early 4-1 deficit to pull out a 5-4 over the Spartans.  Pitcher Felippe Silvas overcame a rough start to pitch a complete game gem and earn the victory for the visiting Oilers.   MHS was able to tie the game 4-4 in the 5th innning and score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Schurr was able to put the tying run on second base with one out but was unable to score as the game ended on a nice running catch by center fielder Jose Aparicio.

Oilers pitcher Joshua Flores had a strong outing going 6 innings only allowing 2 runs, both in the 6th inning. Flores recorded 6 strikeouts. 1st basemen Chris Gonzalez played strong defense and had 3 hits at the plate. Jaime Martinez pitched the 7th inning to record his 3rd save of the season. The Oilers continued their solid defensive play with a strong effort from 3rd baseman Matt Saenz.

Friday April 30th, 2010

MHS jumped out to an early  2-0 lead only to surrender 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Oilers battled back to take the lead 8-7 going into the 6th inning, but  Bell Gardens was able to tie the game at 8-8 going into the final inning of play.  In the top of the 7th inning the Oilers were able to score 5 runs, ALL with two outs.  Second baseman Jesse Flores got the game-winning hit with bases loaded to score the go-ahead runs.   Bell Gardens was able to load the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the inning but only manged to score one run.  Shortstop Andrew Gallegos had a great day at the plate getting 4 hits and reached base all 5 at bats.he

Great Season Oilers!   12-3 In League with a Second Place Finish!   You guys came a long way this year.  I hope you all learned alot this year, and also had some fun along the way. I enjoyed coaching all of you this year. I Hope to see you all make it to the varsity level over the next few years.     - Coach Saldivar
